In conversation with Ms. Sholeh Pakravan, the mother of Reyhaneh Jabbari, we examine the structural violence of the Islamic Republic with a closer look at cases of women prisoners sentenced to death.

We also look at the life story and death sentence of Sohaila Ghadiri, a woman engaged in sex work who was sentenced to death for allegedly killing her five-day-old daughter, as well as the case of Fatemeh Haghighat-Pajouh, who was executed for defending her 15-year-old daughter against sexual assault.

And we explore how, under the shadow of the Islamic Republic, motherhood and womanhood are crushed under the weight of Islamic law.

The Ham-Avā podcast series aims to expand the national discourse around universal values, democracy, the separation of religion and state, human rights, and gender equality.

Within such a framework, we can move along the path of collective wisdom toward a free and dignified Iran—for all Iranians, regardless of belief, thought, gender, ethnicity, or background.
