Femicide is the most extreme form of domestic violence, and the most brutal expression of violence and crime against women.

A woman is punished for “dishonoring” the family or to protect male “honor” and reputation. The term femicide highlights the true nature of this crime: the cold-blooded killing of a human being because of her sexuality, because she is a woman.

In this fourth episode of Ravi, part of the #HamAva_Talk podcast series, titled The Law of Killing – #Femicide, we explore the history of so-called “honor killings” in Iran, the religiously backed legal justifications under different names, the forms femicide takes, and other critical issues surrounding it.

In this program, Sahar Naseri, together with Nazila Golestan and Maziar Makfi from HamAva, a Shi’a cleric whose identity and voice remain anonymous for security reasons, journalist and women’s rights activist Sharareh Mahboodi, and psychotherapist Saba Alaleh, discusses the various aspects of this issue.

The HamAva podcast series is committed to fostering national dialogue around universal values: democracy, secular governance, human rights, and sexual equality.Within this framework, we believe we can move toward a free and dignified Iran, for all Iranians, regardless of belief, opinion, sexuality, ethnicity, or background.
